Halloween Madness '14: Clash of the Titans!

They are not always easy to see in the photos but each clue was marked with the bracket they were in (A,B,C,D) on one of these cards:


I took the pictures the next day so it's all in the daylight, but you get the idea. Clues, by room (click on link to get to original):


Sun room & breakfast nook, 4 clues:


Mantle. Bracket A.


Near the picture window wall. Bracket B.


Out on the deck (visible through the window). Bracket D.


In the breakfast nook. Bracket A. (I had the whole breakfast nook wrapped in that creepy forest wrap, with blue/purple strung lights above)




Kitchen: 4 clues


Countertop by the coffee maker. Bracket B.


On the wall next to the pegs for hanging mugs. Bracket D.


On the countertop over by the small appliances. Bracket A.


Around the corner by the foyer/restroom on the wall. Bracket C.




Living Room: 3 clues (also note the bones in the fireplace, that was D's doing, LOL)


On the bookshelf by the stairs to the basement. Bracket C.


Wall hanging. Bracket C.


On the door to the Master BR (where all the cats were hanging out all night). Bracket C. (Seems this was a C-heavy room, ah well)




Dining Room: 3 clues:


On the bookshelf around the corner. Bracket A.


On the green bookshelf by the stairs. Bracket D.


Hanging up to the right on the front door. Bracket B.



Upstairs: 3 clues (no framing shot; but the stairs to the second floor are right at the front door)


This was hanging from the hall light but fell when I tried to photograph it this morning. Bracket B.


On the office door. Bracket C.


Around the corner in the TARDIS nook (of course). Bracket A.




Stairwell and basement hallway: 6 clues


On the wood runner heading down the stairs. Bracket B.


At the bottom of the stairs by the cat-door to the litterbox room. Bracket D. Also since you can't see it at all, the challenge is a blue open hand (paper)


Hallway on the left wall. Bracket D.


Hallway on the right wall. Bracket B.


Around the corner (left turn) by the garage door and bathroom. Bracket A.


In the corner right before going into the music room. Bracket B.




Unfinished basement room: 4 clues. That is our new wall on the right, and the curtain that gave me fits on Friday hanging behind everything on the far wall and hiding the crawlspace.


On the wall by the beer fridge. Bracket A.


Behind the light right by the entry door. Bracket C.


Tucked into a framed poster. Bracket D.


On the furnace. Bracket B.



And lastly the Music Room (through the french doors straight ahead from the hallway): 5 clues.


On the side of the fish tank. Bracket D.

This is great! Wow, how long did it take to get all those clues made and hidden? It looks like it was a really fun game, you did an amazing job. :)

Ha, longer than I had hoped. It was on a slow burner for a few weeks while I tracked things down and went to various dollar stores or looked for things online. It was a pretty difficult game for party-goers, but I think they had fun trying to fill it out. I told folks it was okay to cheat and use your phone to look things up if you had to. Or to ask for hints, I gave quite a few hints.

I had the Rock-paper-scissors thing as part of what they needed to guess as they were going along. Some people got it but others were confused by the format.

Thanks! I didn't really start thinking about it a lot until about 2 weeks ago, when nonelvis helped spur the format in an lj discussion and then auntiemeesh helped me brainstorm combatants when I kidnapped her a few weeks ago to watch hockey and work on party stuff :)

It took me far longer than it should have to figure out the rock-paper-scissors thing. Really awesome game thought!

(because I'm a terrible cheat and kind of awful at crosswords... who won?)

I'm surprised none of the cats knocked the giant spider over. But those are some really nifty hiding places/decorations!

And I...think Gandalf is fighting Harry Potter? Making some jumps and educated guesses, but probably messed up one of the sides very badly.

They can't reach the spider, though I am more surprised the Dementor has survived :)

Ohhh, I didn't even think about the Dementor but now that you mention it...yeah.

I'm guessing that Dorthy isn't the one who makes it, but I honestly have no idea who she's facing off. Though if I'm reading it right, she doesn't win anyway. Which has her facing...I think Spike or the Doctor? Again, not sure who the Walkers are facing off, but I think they lose anyway.

Well who does she go up against in the movie? In each bracket, each of the numbered players square off against one of the lettered players. Dorothy's clue says she's in bracket B, and if you look at the names in bracket B the only one that matches is #7. So Dorothy is #7 and her opponent is one of e,f,g, or h.

After they match up, they play Rock-Paper-Scissors according to the throw listed on the cards, and the winner moves on.
