Sound/Voice Meme for Doctor Who

So hey, I did a meme! This is a voice meme I snagged after a_phoenixdragon did a SuperNatural version of it linked from tebtosca here.

The internet is an amazing place that has allowed us to communicate and share with each other, but there is just something about listening to someone else's voice and getting to know them through the things that make them unique. Cadence, accent, the amount of times someone says "UM" -- all of those things are a delightful way to appreciate the friends you already have and the friends you are hoping to make.

The instructions are super easy: record yourself answering the questions below the jump and then post it in the comments!

There are several ways to record. I used Audacity and then uploaded it to tindeck. (You can also upload to soundcloud or other kinds of sites, but that does require having a microphone). Others have used Vocaroo Your iPhone or other device might also have built in sound recorders that can work. There is also a way to make a recording via your phone on LJ if that's easier for you.

My recording is linked below. It's unrehearsed and upon listening I never realized I said "um" so much. But yeah, I totally do.

I did do it! I sound like a goof, and a very indecisive one, but I did it. I'll see if jjpor wants to link to it on who at 50. Perhaps in the morning. I was at a friend's and didn't get home until 11pm tonight, didn't start recording this until after midnight! Possibly that explains much of the incoherence.

Cool! I think the easiest way is to do an LJ voice post: you just call a number on your phone and talk to it. But Audacity isn't too difficult. I haven't had any experience with Vocaroo so I'm not sure how easy it is for beginners.

I remember being very excited about seeing Halley's comet. My dad told us about it when we were little (we still lived in Maryland so we were under 5) and said, "It will come when you're eight". And we decided, well, we can go to the window and look out and wait until we're eight and we see it. We were probably like 4 at the time. :)

Donna was really great as a companion because she's treated very much on equal terms with the Doctor and they're excellent friends. Plus, ginger queen :D

The other line of Donna's that I like a lot is from the christmas special when she's looking down the giant spider pit and says, "Dinosaurs! Dinosaurs? Just...trying to help." :D

This was really good - I might have a go myself if I can work out the technicalities of recording something and posting it. I think you did it very well too - I didn't notice that many "ums" when I was listening to it.

Good choice of username too - I remember that particular X-Files episode well. The creepy little girls even nearly got the drop on Mulder and Scully in the end.

They did indeed nearly use their foxglove poisoning skills on Mulder and Scully too. Likely revenge for dressing them in matching bright red Murphy Brown 80's shoulder-pad dresses. (if my recollection serves me...)

Your story of discovering Who was quite fun. I ache for the poor person traumatised by Eccleston regeneration; THAT must have hurt.

And hockey! I love hearing people being passionate about hobbies - it always brings me joy.

The astronomy game was called Space Hop. There was also Star Hop (we were not as good at Star Hop because the clues for where you needed to go were a lot tougher).

For some reason when I was doing that meme I just completely blanked on any good quotes, even though there are plenty I'm sure! I think that means I need to do a re-watch marathon soon.

That was a lot of fun to listen in on. You have a very nice voice and record it well (podfic practice, I'm guessing?) I especially liked your explanation of what you do during hockey - getting in the way and being annoying. You're so enthusiastic about it! It made me grin.

Thanks! Ha yeah, podfic practice :) I used to do well moderating at quiz bowl tournaments too: reading questions Alex-Trebek-like for people to buzz in with answers.

Hockey is so much fun. Even if I don't score goals. The other night we were up 2-0 and the other team had their goalie pulled and were pressuring and I corralled the puck and dumped it out of the zone with like 40 seconds to go and it felt almost as good as (I imagine) scoring a goal. :D
