Dear Youtube and other video watching sites

I am but a lowly netizen with EV-DO wireless connections for my home Interwebs. For those unaware, it's comparable to DSL for download rates. What happened to the days where a whole video could load locally on my machine, I could wait and watch it load on the little bar at the bottom of the screen, and... (this is the important bit)... I could rewind it without having to wait for it to RE-LOAD?

Is there a setting I can change somewhere? I hate streaming. My b an

ETA: It is apparently a difficulty with YouTube farming their servers out to "THE CLOUD" and having said cloud try to estimate when the video would be ready for watching & parcel out the service of bits accordingly... and failing miserably. I mean it fails every time. I hate it.

I was literally just cussing and swearing about this myself. I'd switched windows while waiting for a 1 minute clip to buffer. Anyway, I've reached the point where I just installed a Youtube video downloader add-on in Firefox and I now download practically everything, watch it and then delete it. It's less frustrating if I want to rewind, replay or try to slow it down, since I don't have to cope with the constant buffering. And I'm on FIOS so it's not necessarily just your connection. At this point I'm blaming their servers, although I read that some ISPs, Verizon (mine) included, have been throttling traffic to certain sites like Netflix and Youtube. Go figure.

I experience the same thing and I'm on 20Mbps download speed via cable modem with Cox. I do know Cox is throttling traffic, but according to their terms and conditions, it should be only based on the total GB I transfer (something like 250GB/month). Netflix hasn't been as bad - although I did have to downgrade the streaming quality from middle to "normal" for awhile. Now, it's YouTube and it drives me INSANE.

OMG! I thought I was crazy. This is obvious something that's come about during my two years off the internets and I'd thought maybe it was something to do with my new connection, but no. THIS IS RUBBISH.

Oh, so THAT's what it is! I've almost given up trying to watch any vids of late. :-/
