Master of Cleaning!

I visited the vacuum store down the street a few months ago to scope vacuums. The model we've had for ages is a Bissel that is not up for the task of our house. So this morning we finally went in to purchase a new weapon for our fight against fur factories.

We didn't pay as much as it says there on the price tag; it wasn't cheap, but holy heck is this thing awesome. After just one sweep our carpets upstairs looked a thousand times better than they have in years. We also got a little canister vacuum that has attachments and tools. I feel like a cleaning ninja now. Yay for getting the house under control!

OMG...one day, I too, shall have a shiny new vacuum - my heart weeps with want.

It's been on my list for a while; I'm glad to cross it off!

I feel like there's too much stuff crammed into our house for it to be Uber-clean, but this will definitely make a dent :)

My mom has one of those Dyson Animal vacs, and it's pretty amazing. We have a refurbished Kirby, and we love it -- I think the Dyson does a better job, but the price tag is a bit much. Isn't it funny how something like a really good vacuum can make you feel so awesome?

It makes cleaning seem so much less futile! I went in to the store asking about the Dyson Animal, but the owner kind of steered me away from it because of all the moving parts and the propensity for them to need repairs. He suggested the Simplicity. I was dubious but did some online research about the Simplicity and it got good reviews, and so far it has had no problem picking up the pet hair that was eg: ingrained in our upstairs computer room for the last 11 months. In one sweep!

Now I'm realizing though that our downstairs rug looks just as awful vacuumed as it does not vacuumed :( It's the same rug that was there when we bought the house, one of those light colored berber carpets that's popular with houses with kids. We don't have kids. Though, just the two of us have managed to grunge this thing up so awfully, I think it will need six shampoo-ings with pure bleach or something.

Kittehs! They do look like they have rather a lot of fur in them, heh. Hooray for your ascent into the ranks of the cleaning ninjas!

They have very long fur. It doesn't get everywhere like short-haired cat fur, but where it does get, it's hard to get rid of. Our previous vacuum could not pick it up off the floor at all. I am so psyched that the new one can. :D

What did you do if you couldn't vacuum it before?

(a) Tried anyway.
(b) Once in a while, went at the carpets manually, using shoes or stiff brooms to gather up the cat hair out of the rugs to the point that the vacuum could get it.
(c) (sadly) left it go.

That sounds complicated. I think my worst vacuum adventure was the time that our apartment complex's shared vacuums all disappeared, and to clean before a party we had to creep around on the floor with strips of masking tape.
