Holy shit, that was awesome. HOLY SHIT. Moffat made the Daleks scary again. I loved it. I will probably post something more coherent at some point but right now it's just pure squee. Sorry for those expecting something more rational. And, unexpected Jenna-Louise ParkerColeman*!!! OMG What do you want to bet she teleported up to the TARDIS and will be a stowaway for the next four or five episodes.

I was hoping you'd get to see it soon! The party has been sadly missing you thus far...to the extent that it's been a party. I think everyone has moved away to Tumblr, because LJ seems less busy than it used to be after a new episoded aired. Or maybe I just incorrectly remember posts going up faster and it's really the same?

P.S. Don't feel compelled to reply to this until such time as you are feeling better, but:

They've making me do countable sets in math again (this is probably the third time I've seen them now but they're like my favorite thing so I don't even care) and so as pre- and post- ep fics are slowly going up the only thing I can think about is how Rory said he thought Amy didn't love him as much as he loved her. And you know how the cardinality of the infinite set belonging to an interval doesn't depend on the length of the interval?

Man, I don't even understand how tumblr works; it seems like you can't comment on entries the same way you do on LJ. That, and also it seems like all it is is animated gifs for content.

I love that we met Oswin immediately! And holy crap she was a Dalek! So what are we going to see at Christmas? Oswin pre-Dalek-ification? OR Oswin, computer genius, post-Dalek-ification making herself a new body of some kind?

Amy and Rory... they didn't do much in this episode except fight and break up. But I did like their scene together where they talk about the issues, and also they had some good lines: "What color? All the good questions were taken." and "Someone's never been to Scotland." Ha!

Wonder what happens next week that they get picked up again...

also, DINOSAURS! On a SPACE SHIP. What can possibly go wrong with that???? Also also, is the creepy guy an actor from the Lord of the Rings? Maybe Denethor or something?

You can't. Sometimes people enable replies, and then you can, but usually you have to reblog to add your comment. And yes, it's mostly gifs, gifsets, gorgeous photoshopped stills, and then people being REALLLLLLLLLY cranky. There is no fanwank like Tumblr fankwank, and you would not believe the social justice arguments that go down on fandom and non-fandom Tumblrs alike. I had to take a semi-hiatus this summer because just having other people's arguments and angry tags show up in my feed was stressing me out too much.

I don't know! There is a lot of speculation based on production stills and random fan theories, but I don't know how much you're avoiding spoilers, and it's all spec now anyway....

Yeah, it was kind of tacked on, but they had so many issues dumped on them by canon that it was sort of good that the writers were at least acknowledging in a tacked-on way that their lives have sucked lately, and that that is probably affecting their "normal happiness" or whatever. And haha, yes. I liked Rory's bit with the Dalek "eggs," and also when Oswin was trying to flirt with him and he was just really confused and busy trying not to die and was like, fine, just call me Nina.

Dinosaurs on a space ship is the most perfect episode concept I can think of, except perhaps if they could find a way to work kittens doing math into the show, which is unlikely, but hey, they've had cat nuns before. I don't know, is that the guy who played Denethor? My brain went straight to KHAAAAAAAAN, so idk.

I've been so slack on writing lately. Back to being annoyed at the WIP-o-doom, but maybe writing a few other things will help get me unstuck. I was also thinking of writing Fitz/Donna for livii. Ah, I should make a list.

aw, thanks :) I am hoping to work on this section some more tonight and this weekend. I had envisioned a scene there many months ago that I think I need to abandon or move somewhere else or otherwise let go of.

It seems that folks are starting to remember the meme exists; it was pretty dead for a while. I did write one other thing there recently, just a silly timey-wimey misplaced comment fic. I need to focus on finishing this next section of the WIP-o-Doom in whatever way it finally decides to manifest. I have to throw out my navigation chart at least for the next 2500 words or so. *sigh*

But yeah, the meme has been pretty dead and is waking up slowly. I put some fluff up there last week and would probably write more if I had better luck finding prompts that weren't my own...and I can't really help with the porn.... :P

Is the section that's being a problem the one I looked at that you're making edits on, or the one that would come after that? Or a part of the one I saw that was still in placedholder stage?

Did you write the Rory/Amy one-shot scene after Pond Life #2? That was sweet. :)

ETA: I am trying to re-write the stuff I sent you a few weeks ago, then must decide what exactly happens next because the scene that I thought would go there (and had written short notes for) does not fit anymore. But that's okay; I just have to get to the next action sequence. Then I know what happens exactly for a while, and mostly for the rest of the story unless it up and changes on me again.

Hee, thanks. :) I thought I was going to get buried in homework, but while my analysis professor remains extremely gung-ho about everything, my other classes have been kind of slow to start out. My algebra class is just about to *drumroll* learn the Euclidean algorithm, so when I haven't been bashing my head against "Gaughan's Analysis," I have just been derping around LiveJournal far more than is reasonable.

It sounds like you mostly have it figured! It's always annoying when stories have ideas of their own, though, heh. :P

I am trying to work out some physics of something that I told myself a year ago wouldn't bother me if it was completely impossible. I think it involves vectors. But also the sudden addition of (possibly infinite) mass to a moving object? (goes back to F = ma and kinematics diagrams)

My dad is a physicist but I'd feel weird calling him up and asking him a question about a story I'm writing! And yeah, the last time I took physics was...second semester of college? About 16 years ago. D might be able to help me out; he's an engineer (though a chemical engineer) but he also studies a lot of ballistics for his target-shooting hobby.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! There has been so much hate on tumblr I was nervous to click on your cut tag but I should have known you'd love it! I AM SO OBSESSED WITH THE BALLERINA DALEK. It's a little embarrassing. And good LORD but Oswin was the best. And the Doctor's reaction to her being a dalek was so disgusting, so unworthy of him, it makes me love Moffat all the more for bringing that back. Bringing back the Doctor who is so magnificent in so many ways but at his worst when it comes to the daleks. I missed him. I missed the daleks being terrifying. GAH. I loved this ep so much.

The ballerina was creepy! When I think back on it though, the little ballerina at the start of the episode (where Oswin was making souffle's and such) was, I think, a clue that her little world was a fantasy.

This episode is the first one in a long time that really really made me HATE Daleks, for what they did to poor Oswin. Ugh. I think the Doctor was more angry at the Daleks for what they did, and . . . hopeless in a way? Which didn't strike me as disgusting particularly, but more that he didn't think that he could possibly ever save her. Her choosing to stay there was a bit of a pat solution, but I hope that when we meet her again, it's after the fact here and not a timey-wimey of something going before. I hope she teleported up as a Dalek, insinuated herself into the TARDIS and manages to somehow do a consciousness transfer or something. So the Doctor is stuck with her and stuck with the fact that he didn't think he could save her and so she went and did it herself.

Ugh, ugh, ugh, Moffat! So freaking cruel. Not that I don't like it; it's new and different and I hope they do something new and difficult with it. (I won't be crushed if they don't--though if the Doctor goes back and tries to take Oswin off to see the world before she gets Dalek-ified, would that be a Charley Pollard-esque effing with the Web of Time?)

Yay! I've been looking for your reaction post! (And thank you again for pointing me to the prequel stuff).

I found the Daleks very scary (although I don't quite get how the humany bits fit in there for the extended canon...but I don't really care all that much because scary and AWESOME!)

I love how the Doctor got a new name and was delayed in figuring it out and the Eggs-ter-min-ate. And Rory being Rory and Amy being Amy.

And oh I forgot about the ballerina and that was so freaky.

The only thing I didn't like was the Amy/Rory break-up. I mean, I think I get why it was done (to make Amy's sacrifice more on par with Rory), but I think it was done better in Season 6 with that quarantine planet and as for Amy not able to have kids, it was a bit too fast to get through (Although yes Kids show, I can understand that better).

You're welcome for the links! In canon, the Daleks generally make people into controlled clones or drones, though usually that does not involve protruding eyestalks from foreheads or guns from hands. But there are a lot of old school episodes where people get turned into Dalek drones.

I think the Amy/Rory plotline was a bit rushed but I forgive them for it because it really did seem to be an emotional grace note; part of the "take away love and add hate and anger" angle, and Amy and Rory didn't really have much to do this episode. I was saying in a different thread somewhere that I actually find it pretty true to character that Amy would run away from the pain of not being able to have kids or give Rory the life he wanted. She has been known to run from things she's afraid of in the past, and although she grew a lot in her travels with the Doctor, that is a lot for her to have to deal with, and I can see her putting on a very angry front about it and pushing away the people she needs most. That said, all of the above is my reading into the character and not necessarily what was really shown.

My co-worker suggests that the episode needed to be 10 minutes longer... but if it was 10 minutes longer, I don't know that they would want to add too much more of the Pond family drama. I'd like to see more Daleks and creepy-ass asylum rooms, personally.

I agree with your coworker. The beats in the relationship/b plot seemed just a bit rushed/disconnected. I thought the reveal of our Dalek rescuer was just perfect though.

Speaking of coworkers. I just found out today that one of my coworkers is a big Doctor Who fan! I told her about the prequel videos and she was so excited!
