Against Big Bird, The Gods Themselves Contend In Vain

There are too many Sesame Street specials to count, and most of them have climactic revelations along the lines of, "Oscar learns that not everyone likes a grouch" or "Elmo learns the real value of sharing." Yet once, just once, a bunch of writers at the Children's Television Workshop actually decided to run with "Big Bird overpowers the will of gods and demons in a quest for celestial justice."

Okay, so I didn't imagine that story! Was there also a bit either in that episode or elsewhere, where Bert and Ernie run into a mummy? Possibly an invisible one? Or am I really imagining that part?

Yes! And as I mentioned in the thread, I think it was those two episodes I was conflating. Because I think I saw the mummy one later or was talking about it with someone and I kept thinking that there was a part with a little Egyptian ghost boy that I was missing...

I despised Sesame Street as a kid. Obviously I was watching the wrong episodes!

(tbh, the only recipe I can remember is the one where one of the kids has to go the hospital an gets to pick out there on meals on the menu. I ended up in the hospital shortly after and was very disappointed that three year old me was not at any point given a menu. In retrospect, this might've been why I didn't like the show...)

It was pretty intense. It was a special I think; a whole movie and not just your general episode. I liked it a lot. The locking up in the museum reminds me also of From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler which, to the envy of all relevant Ben Stiller movies, is the quintessential night-in-the-museum story.

i remember that episode too. we watched it upstairs in mom and dad's room one night while they had friends over downstairs, and we decided to "make mischief" by throwing all the pillows and blankets onto the floor in a pile and scattering crumbs in them. What angels we were....

Scattering crumbs? Jeez, we were hellions. Not as bad as when we covered Miranda's entire bedroom in talcum powder though.
