Speaking of spoilers, I was spoiled, like, MINUTES before watching because somebody on [livejournal.com profile] dw_cosplay had posted an uncut pic of Mels with the title "Looking for Mels Pond Outfit!". That should teach me to look at lj right before watching.

Random thoughts:

Hitler in a cupboard. LOL. And he doesn't show up for the rest of the episode. I love it; the strange time travel pastiche that you know, if people really did live like the Doctor, would end up happening more often than not. Major plot points of your life take place in 30's Berlin because 30's Berlin is no more same or different of a backdrop than anything else.

Ah, puns. Did anyone else read the lines as:
"I think he just fainted."
"Yes, that was a feint."

The Justice department knows about the TARDIS. And here's a thing, it's listed in the archives as "Listed as stolen". Which, it was of course. By the Doctor. BUT they are obviously talking about Melody Pond in matching War Criminals. So does that mean that Melody/River steals the TARDIS later on? (earlier on for him).

I love Amy's reaction to the miniaturization ray. "How do you know that?" "Well there was a ray and we were miniaturized." "All right."

Overall, this was kind of like crack fanfic, but I enjoyed it. Loved Matt Smith, and I thought that while Alex Kingston was laying it on a bit thick for most of it, when it counted she got it right: the "perhaps the cruelest warfare of them all" line and the end where the Doctor whispers to her and she says "Well I'm sure she knows..."

I enjoyed it more on rewatch. Though it makes me wonder if the Doctor has run into little Melody Pond before and she tried to kill him; he seemed quite prepared. And, poor Doctor, getting all poisoned. Loved the "I'm fine...no, I'm dying. But I have a plan!" But what was the point of fish fingers and custard?

I liked Amy and Rory in this a lot, though the spaceship people were kind of... well, dim, I guess. Overall, not the best, but fun and crazy and entertaining :)

ETA: And another thing, why would Amy disable her and Rory's bracelets inside the Tesselecta? I would disable everybody's EXCEPT mine if I were her...

But what was the point of fish fingers and custard?

When he first met Amelia as a little girl, I think that was one of the things he ate in her kitchen when he was still regenerating and his body was a bit wonky. I can't remember the exact deal with that since it's been so long since I saw the episode.

I couldn't figure that out either. Let me know if you ever find an explanation.

Sorry, didn't get to get back and edit my comment to add more about that.

He had asked her to give him something for the pain and then she'd said those words. I think it served to remind him of when he ate those things to stop the pain of his regeneration.

That's all I got. lol

It was a fun episode, wasn't it? I'm not sure how it will all fit into the plot arc in the end--things are still so wibbly-wobbly and all--and there have definitely been better episodes, but this one was really enjoyable and had a lot of the lighthearted adventure I had been missing in the first half of the season.

Yes. It amused me. :)

Yeah I caught that. Clever Doctor!

But what was the point of fish fingers and custard?

To remind him of what he's fighting for, to give him the strength to keep going. I think that was his head, or possibly sexy, giving him that and not the actual voice interface.

This was wildly fun, but I had to watch a second time to fully appreciate it. The best moment had to be Rory decking Hitler, telling him to sit there and shut up, and then locking him in a cupboard! Actually all of Rory's scenes and lines in this were really awesome. I also caught the faint/feint line, and laughed.

BTW the parasol and boots look wonderful!

I expected a quick shot at the end of Hitler still stuck in the cupboard-- when they didn't, I found it even funnier :D

I kinda love that Mels was over the top, it felt right, she's going for femme fatale but is too young for it yet (lol at gun!banana). I was also trying to figure out their kiss chronology-- from River's point of view this is the first one, while to the Doctor it was the farewell in the prison. But neither are the other's last, right? CONFUSION.

I too was wondering about fish fingers and custard-- as he was asking for help, I thought oh, that happens to be a cure for the Judas tree poison?! O_O Then the regeneration energy took away my theory :)

I had the same reaction to the faint/feint line.

I got spoiled for the Silence being a religious order early this morning. I was doing an image search for Gallifreyan writing and one of the images was overlaid on a journal post with 6x08 spoilers. Gee thanks, Google.

I'm beginning to wonder if Moffat writes a bunch of random ideas about River, sticks them on a dart board and lets the darts decide what to put in her next script.

Yes about the faint, very nicely done. Regarding the TARDIS being stolen, perhaps the were referencing any time she was in it alone?

Loved Rory's explanation for becoming small. Hee!

Perhaps the fish fingers and custard was a key for him refocusing himself on good things other than impending doom?

Not sure about the bracelet thing....oh, perhaps since she understood they were bound to protect her as she wasn't a criminal maybe it would function as a distraction and give her time to plan something else?
