Help out a friend with a vote on Facebook
Aug. 13th, 2011 11:11 amI'm reposting a link and a request from a childhood friend of mine whose younger daughter (5 years old) has a rare condition called Angelman Syndrome. AS is a neurological disorder affecting speech, motor and cognitive functions, causing sleep disturbances and seizures. Because it is rare they don't get a lot of research funding. They are currently competing in a contest called Vivint gives back where folks can vote for their charity on Facebook, to be the grand prize winner of $250,000. This would be earmarked for human trials of a drug therapy that has been shown to cure the effects of AS in mice (you can see more about it on the home page). I've been voting every day for them, but some other teams are gaining on them in this last push. Voting ends August 27th.
They are looking to boost the signal for votes. You don't have to give money, you just follow the Vivint link above and vote for them. You do need a Facebook account and you have to let the project access your info, but from the faq I read it is just so that they can post a status message on your wall, which you can decline to post as well.
I don't usually go for apps that must access my personal info, but I think this is a very good cause. You can check out their site at www.cureangelman.org. If you have a few minutes to follow the link and vote, the foundation and my friend will be very grateful!
