There was new Doctor Who on tonight! It was weird and dark and strange and sad and funny and fabulous.

As I was telling [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2, it was quite creative and like nothing I'd seen before ;) But in all seriousness, I loved it. I loved the idea of sharing the world with fish in fog, very creative. Flying sharks in a bedroom... heh, just go with it, is what I say.

- I love the Doctor coming through the chimney. "Christmas Eve, and here I am on a rooftop and I thought 'What the hell'?"

- "You fibber! Isomorphic, there's no such thing!"

- "There are 4003 people who I'm not going to let die tonight, do you know where that puts you?" "where?" "4004th"

- There is no lottery! I love the way Matt Smith says, "like I said, Lucky".

- Focus on the plusses... I loved this whole scene, from the face spiders (sleeping in his mattress, ha!) to the giant flying shark. Yes. Giant flying shark ftw.

- "The fish like the songs, so shut up!" :D

- "It's either this or go back to your room and design a new kind of screwdriver, don't make my mistakes!" *spews* Oh Stephen Moffat, you are quite good at writing dialogue that will go right over the heads it's supposed to go over, and make the rest of us cackle maniacally like the dirty little fangirls we are.

- The Doctor. Marries. Marilyn Monroe. I love how he flicks his sleeves there, like, "fine, let's just get it over with" HA!

- Kazran telling Amy about Abigail's plight was heartbreaking, really.

- "Better a broken heart than no heart at all." "Yeah? You try it." Oh, Doctor.

- Oh dear, I might have cried all three times (yes, okay, I've watched it three times so far) at the song at the end. I am a sucker for an amazing mezzo soprano voice. I loved in the confidential too, how Michael Gambon was like, "I couldn't tell you a thing about that scene, I couldn't take my eyes off Katherine."

- Season 6 OMG!!! Creeptastic!!! And I'm not just talking about scruffy doctor chained up in a giant Area 51 hangar either.

Right, those are my initial thoughts. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was creative and very Doctor Who.

Face spiders oh god! And the oh, how did he say it -- "Let's see, twelve year old boy, so don't look under the mattress then" -- (he may have said bed, but another example of the funny bits that fly over the heads of some and land on the heads of others.

My happy little Dickens-loving heart (hey, I've committed a fannish Carol years ago for Blakes 7!) adored it, there was just so much glitter and joy and unabashed intelligent sentiment in the script.

And Matt Smith has definitely become one of my three favourite Doctors...

And Michael Gambon was just....

And she sang In The Bleak Midwinter!!! I have listened to five versions of that this weekend and loved them all :)

I really enjoyed it, too! A really nice blend of emotions that was perfect for a holiday special, and some really clever lines and nifty concepts.

It was a wonderful way to end Christmas - my family is a mix of hard-core Whovians and those who have never seen an episode, and we all enjoyed last night's episode!
