I have been listening...

So apparently "Death in Blackpool" (the Christmas episode) was 4x01, not "Situation Vacant", which was actually the second episode of the series. Which means that "Nevermore", "The Book of Kells" and "Deimos" were eps 3, 4 and 5. Which means there's only 3 left!!! I was not prepared for (a) Deimos to end on a cliffhanger, nor (b) Lucie to text the Doctor!

In fact I was even less prepared than I should have been, because I didn't listen to the coda in the Book of Kells. As in, I turned it off after Tamsin said "Second star to the right and straight on til morning" and the credits rolled. SO, I missed the big reveal of Lucianus and the Meddling Monk. Good grief! The only reason I knew what was going on was because I also listened to Deimos AND to the extras at the end of Deimos, and so when Sheridan Smith came on and said she came back "as a bloke" I was like, "wha?" And THEN she said she was Lucianus and I was gobsmacked! And also a bit annoyed as in, WTF, why are you telling me this in the extras???

So anyway, I was completely surprised. :D But I am also enjoying this series quite a bit. I am still kind of 'meh' about Tamsin; she annoys me a bit. And I wonder if she might be more than she seems-- are there any interesting anagrams of "Tamisn Drew"? I have "Master Wind" but that's about it. I liked Nevermore although it was a bit weird and dark, but cool that they're going far afield to America for inspiration :) I thought it was cool how they portrayed the characters in that one, how they gave them three-dimensions and such. I also really enjoyed the Book of Kells. It was a cool historical mystery, and though I've never seen any episodes with the Meddling Monk, I do know who he is, and so it was a cool surprise. I really enjoyed the voice cast a lot. They were all fantastic and I thought I also recognized some from other Whovian works, so I will have to look them up. (Like, Brother Timothy/Brother Patrick was the same dude who played the American genius kid in the Sontaran two-parter? no way!)

I was not really all that excited to hear more Ice Warrior stuff; they're not my favorite. But it was a really cool cast. David Warner! And was the tourist guy Harold also the Sponge Leader from Max Warp? And I knew I recognized Temperance Finch! It was Tracy Ann Oberman who played Yvonne Hartman in Army of Ghosts/Doomsday (and whose name, incidentally, was inspired by Yvonne Hartley from "Spare Parts"). Anyway, great cast, relatively stock plot, really, but we'll see what's in store next month, won't we?

Now I have to go find all the cast and look up the other stuff they did.

Anyway, totally enjoying this season, woohoo!
