Calvierri girl progress
Aug. 23rd, 2010 02:19 amSo, it took a day and a half longer than I'd anticipated, but my sleeves are done! I still have to gather them and pin them to my bodice, and I still have to make the skirts (overskirt and underskirt), but I think I can do that in the weekend plus few weekday evenings I have left before DragonCon. Anyway, I pinned the sleeves to the bodice, laid everything flat and took a few pics with my cellphone because i didn't want to deal with transfering real camera pics:

bodice with finished sleeve. The sleeve involved lots of hand-sewing and slip-stitching bias fold tape around corners and over like 7 layers of fabric. My seams underneath are like Frankenstein's blind hem monster. There are lots of mistakes and I kind of threw the instructions out the window because I couldn't follow what they were doing and so I just kind of winged it. But it looks pretty good from the front.

Behold, monstrous seams! Good thing this pic is kind of blurry, I guess. The sleeve ruffle is two layers of cheap-o lace from the bargain bin at Jo-Ann's, one cream colored and one brown. The lace was already gathered so that made it easy to just pin on and sew. Before having to hem it, anyway. the buttons are pretty cool; you can see the little cording on the open sleeve edge that I had to put in for fastening them.
Closer view of the collar, so you can kind of see the pattern on the fabric.

I gathered up the gold lace trim and the "show buttons" (there is heavy-duty hook and eye tape underneath that actually snaps the bodice together) to see what they would look like; also added a broach/pin thing that I got from the bargain bin at Good Will for a few cents. The trim is going to go down the front of the overskirt side panels as well. It's pretty shiny, probably shinier than the look the of the girl I'm going off of in the episode, but it's the closest I've found. I'm still not sure if I'm going to use it.
Anyway, that's all for now. Being as it's 20 after 2, I should probably go to bed.
