"Right, so one minute it's all 'You make people a danger to themselves,' and the next it's 'we're no leaving you' but if one of you gets squashed or blown up or eaten, who gets the--?
I really like the whole sword fight scene with Rory, Amy and Carlo. The whole blood crazy vampire to indignant British school boy transformation (What did you say about Mummy?) and Carlo's comments about his own particular scent (I'm not going to smell like cheese and biscuits, am I?) was great. Although it does go to show you why Doctor Who should just stick to England, the future and distant planets for settings. Try as they might to be Italian, you can still tell the show was written, acted, and produced by British people for British people. Did make me want to go back and play Assassin's Creed 2 a bit though.
And of course, Rory's response to Amy's critique of the fight.
And what the hell was that thing she had that shot sunlight at Carlo? Was that supposed to be just a regular hand mirror reflecting the sun?
Francesco, right? The son was Francesco; the steward was Carlo (and I think Carlo was human, but i don't know why he threw his lot in with the fish people). It looked like a compact mirror that Amy had. Very dodgy, I agree, on the whole, "vaporising him with directed sunlight" thing. Maybe he was really dried out to begin with (though he had just swum through a canal, so who knows?).

Well to be fair, I imagine there are plenty of little things like that in American shows too, that we don't notice because we're, well, American. :) I will grant though, that the DW folks aren't that great at multiculturalism. The Americans at the end of "The sound of Drums".... *shudders*. But if you ever want to hear the worst of the worst in terms of "what brits think of Americans" you have to listen to the Big Finish audios. The one set in Alaska... ugh ugh ugh. And Minuet in Hell, well that one went from bad to downright insulting.
