Fanfic year in review

livii. This will be very short, since I didn't write very much (and I still have open prompts from a year ago! With many apologies :( )
But:
This list looks long but many stories are very short. Still, even with flash fic (40-odd word stories), I try to write them as a complete story, so I'm keeping them on the list :)
Fics Completed:
On the Study of Shatter-Resistant Materials (Sixth Doctor, Peri, PG, ~2900 words)
*Imprint (the Storm of the Eye Remix) (Eigth Doctor/Master, 300 words)
*Threads (the Backstitch in Time Remix) (Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones, 578 words)
*A Rough Road Leads to the Stars (the I'll Be in Scotland A'fore Ye Remix) (Crichton Tyno, 100 words)
*Detente (the Gray, Gold and Green Remix) (Stark/Chiana, 500 words)
*Bright Shiny Objects (the Snips and Snails Remix) (Jayne, Zoe, 100 words)
Complexity Theory (Tenth Doctor/Charlie Eppes, 800 words)
*Untitled prompt: Pass the Test Tube (Martha Jones/Liz Shaw, 200 words)
*E is for Entropic Cascade Failure (Sam Carter, 300 words for Sam Carter A to Z)
*K is for Kelowna (Sam Carter, 200 words for Sam Carter A to Z)
*Untitled flash fiction (1 and 2) for
amy_wolf's "one flash fiction story in your style and one outside your style" challenge (Tenth Doctor, Donna, 41 words; Sixth Doctor, Peri, 47 words)
The Chinese Remainder Theorem (Sixth Doctor, Evelyn Smythe, ~1500 words)
Scar Tissue (Buffy/Angel, ~850 words)
*The Lioness in Winter (Ace McShane/Martha Jones, 40 words)
*Loose Ends (Seventh Doctor, Tegan, 40 words)
*Things to do in Irons at a Beta Septima Dungeon When You're to Hang in the Morning (hours 1, 7, 10 and 19) (Tenth Doctor, Jack, Mystery Guests, 40 words)
Nor Iron Bars a Cage (Zhaan, Jabe, ~800 words)
Out of the Mouths (Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester, ~1000 words)
*drabble/flashfic
Honorable mentions:
Veil DVD commentary. Mentioned because it's fannish and it took me quite a while to do, but it was fun revisiting an older fic.
Character meme, if only for the answer to the amusement park question posed by
aurora_novarum
Fics (multi-chapter) Started or Continued:
Forced Perspective (SG-1 original team) -- I've been meaning to get back to that one. I actually have some more written, somewhere.
There's another Stargate WIP that if I could write the whole thing would be a bit of a classic romp with humor and also Asgard, and Classic Sci-Fi cliche number 2 (body-switching).
There's another Supernatural story, "role reversal" for
auntiemeesh in which Dean has to finish Sam's school report on the history and uses of corn. Despite what you might think, he wrote, 12-gauge cartridges packed with Jiffy-pop kernels do NOT make popcorn when fired.
There's a Doctor Who story that keeps flitting around among Doctors, companions and basic plot points-- that I posted about last year too. *sighs* Still unfinished.
Total: 19 (~10400 words)
Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted? I don't generally predict that kind of thing. Probably about what I expected. I didn't really do much writing at all the second half of the year, though.
Where did you publish/archive your stories? LJ and Teaspoon for the dw fic.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2008? For three stories out of the 19 (and two of the longer ones, even), the Sixth Doctor took over my brain! I wouldn't have predicted that.
What’s your favorite story this year? I'm quite fond of "On the Study of Shatter-Resistant Materials" Definitely the one I thought most about.
Okay, NOW your most popular story. I think by comments it's actually "Out of the Mouths", which is my first and only Supernatural story. Props to
lomer for a crazy but fun prompt :) But "The Chinese Remainder Theorem" for being a math-y story with an unpopular doctor and an obscure audio companion, also got recc-ed a few times :)
Story most underappreciated by the universe? The one I spent the most time on, that I think few people read, was also "On the Study of Shatter-Resistant Materials". But it was Six and Peri, and specifically for
elliptic_eye and she quite liked it, so a pox on the universe, I say :)
Story that could have been better? "Things to Do in a Beta-Septima Dungeon when you're to Hang in the Morning." Hamstrung by my draconian measures to get it in at 40 words. I should really write that story properly.
Sexiest story? I guess it's a toss-up between "Imprint", and "Complexity Theory."
Most fun story? "Out of the Mouths." Definitely crack-fic-esque, which is always fun. Followed closely by "Bright Shiny Objects", and then "Threads".
Story with single sweetest moment? Sweet? That's a tough one. I like "Loose Ends" but I wouldn't quite describe it as sweet. Maybe the end of "Chinese Remainder Theorem".
The story that made you cry? None. Except in frustration, maybe, during the writing process.
Hardest story to write? "On the Study of Shatter-Resistant Materials." A character study of Peri Brown. Yeeeaaah.
Easiest story to write? "Out of the Mouths." Fastest 1000 words I've ever written.
Most overdue story? Prize goes to "On the Study of Shatter-Resistant Materials" again, which came in 2 months after the first deadline. We won't mention the prompts I still haven't gotten around to writing...
Did you take any writing risks this year? Well, I put out a request for prompts, which was risky. And didn't finish all of them. And I did the drabble remix which can always be nerve-wracking.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year? Other than "not to spend a lot of time writing?" Sadly, no :(

Date: 2008-12-13 04:36 pm (UTC)(And I've been flitting around the Eighth Doctor Adventure books (got a dl of all of them in pdf form, yay!), and have bookmarked "Love You Always" for after reading "Reckless Engineering". I'm just now reading The Taint, but I also read Year of Intelligent Tigers, and some of the Sabbath arc. I'm all for more fic about novel companions!)
