The most recent experiments: BF 67--Dreamtime with Ace, Hex and Seven, and BF 65--The Juggernauts with Six and Mel. Spoilers below.

Dreamtime: Well, that didn't make a lick of sense at all, did it? Aside from having some spectacularly bad sound mixing to the point where I could barely hear the dialogue in some sections, I kept waiting for the scientific explanation of why Ayers Rock would suddenly take to the heavens and fly through space looking for a new home. And instead I get, "some old wizard is living in the rock, which is pissed because women are now using boomsticks." Um, excuse me, what??? Oh, and it's all the Doctor's fault, by the way, and did someone say "psycho-terraforming"???

However, despite this terrible, jumbled excuse for a plot, I still love Hex. "Remember me? I'm the one who said, 'oh my god' a lot when we first met." And he's still doing it!

The Juggernauts: How come no one has told me yet that Melanie Bush is awesome!? Fandom, you have FAILED! Anyway, I enjoyed this story immensely. Six was in fine form, and Davros was up to his old tricks too! I'm not even that big on Dalek story lines, but oddly enough, Davros is growing on me. I'd only ever seen him in "Ressurrection of the Daleks" (That's the Fifth Doctor one with the clones, right?), but last night I looked up the first episode of "Genesis of the Daleks" on YouTube, and wow, it's amazing how they really do make him look so menacing and creepy just with cut shots and lighting. Anyway, he's got an evil streak a mile frigging wide, doesn't he? His utter disdain and casual murder of the addict board member, his culling of human body parts for the Juggernauts-- while I've never seen "mechanoids" from the original series, seems like Davros took the nastiest parts of Daleks and Cybermen and fused them together, sheesh. And Mel gives them a back door in her programming, ha!

I really liked Mel in this episode, making a life for herself when she got separated from the Doctor, and not afraid to send Davros to his just desserts but at the same time still conflicted about it afterward. Part of me kind of wished that Professor Vasso could have been real, I mean, a real force for good, and I must figure that Mel was thinking that Davros killed that part of himself too, when she sent him up the creek. I *loved* Colin Baker in this ep too, from his spot-on egotistical resistance to the Daleks upon being held prisoner ("You will remain silent!" "You should know by now that'll never happen!", ha!), to his gentle side showing through on comforting Mel when the whole ordeal is over. I loved Davros blowing up the Daleks, and the second of pure "oh shit!" in the Dalek voices as they yelled to retreat right before detonation. I liked Jeff and kept hoping he'd somehow survived and was sad when he didn't reappear :( I liked Mel leaving the music box behind as a memorial. Anyway, this one goes on my short list of favorites, something I'd not anticipated just from reading the blurb (it took me an entire episode in and two tries to listen to "Davros", and I really didn't like "Terror Firma" at all).

I can't urge you strongly enough to watch all of Genesis of the Daleks. Even with some campy effects, the story's one of the best ever, and RTD even tied it back into the relaunch IIRC.

As for Melanie Bush, you haven't seen Time and the Rani, have you? If you haven't, DON'T.

Time and the Rani is OK if you go in ready to laugh and fully immune to embarrassment. And the more you like Colin Baker, the more you'll probably dislike it. Don't say I didn't warn ya!!

(Here from [livejournal.com profile] whodaily) Mel is rather awesome in the audios. Quite a contrast to the way the character usually came across on television.
