This one's mine! In His Kiss (The Vis Uban Is For Lovers Remix) (Stargate SG-1, PG), with many thanks to
jenlev and
auntiemeesh for betas. Did anybody guess? I have a few guesses of other authors but they have yet to be revealed.
This was an interesting challenge, since I think I managed to be paired with my fandom polar opposite in
melayneseahawk. And so I guess the end result is what happens in the Stargate World when a plotty-gen-PG writer with an unhealthy love for original characters meets a steamy-slashy-NC17 writer who loves Jack/Daniel above all else :) I picked the story In His Kiss(NC-17, J/D) because the setup-- Daniel without the means to communicate-- had me intrigued. In my mind, what Melayne has here is really a fairy tale: boy gets enchanted by an evil sorcerer, boy meets boy, boy and boy find out they need each other, and thus the spell is broken by true love and a kiss. With a few bumps and bruises in the relationship along the way.
So my first thought was, If I was going to tell this, it would be a fairy tale. A legend, with changelings and magic and strange gifts. And since Melayne left the door pretty wide open for what happened on Vis Uban before moving to the J/D part of the story, and since I figured I'd have a difficult time writing even PG J/D, I decided to tell the opposite tale. Boy gets enchanted by an evil sorcerer, boy meets boy, boy and boy each need something that the other one can't give them. Ever. And so a kiss is just a kiss, and a page is just a page. And because Daniel is Daniel, even if he can't talk, he communicates, and even if he doesn't realize it, the world listens long after he's gone.
So that was the idea. A flip side, in as many ways as I could manage. Don't know how much it has to do with the original, but I am pretty satisfied with it :)
