Snowflake Challenge #7
Jan. 19th, 2021 05:43 pmI have no idea if I will get to this or not, But I think personalized Fandom Flowcharts would be fun.
Kind of like a timeline but also sort of referential, if there were any "Gateway fandoms" that got you into one or the other (same actor, same genre, rec from friends). Nothing so complicated as Univariate probability distributions (yes, I own this poster and have been pencil-coloring it for a while), but something personalized that shows your own Fandom Journey, be it simple or complex.
(And I really, REALLY want to see
You could have color coding on the charts for your engagement types -- making fic, vids, just watching/reading, etc. Or like, if you were shippy about it or not, etc.
I wonder if there are any free online flowchart makers that could help someone visualize this kind of thing. Then you could have your own personalized fandom graph or timeline or sankey diagram or what-have-you out of it.
I have no idea if this counts as a challenge. It's a challenge to me to come up with some kind of viz for it, I suppose.

Date: 2021-01-20 09:25 am (UTC)Just when I was going, wow, rather you than me!
Blame Blake's 7, really. I was watching the last episode when I was really ill at the start and it worked for me without hurting me in a way that so little else was at the time, in part because of the pace/lack of music and in part because David Collings and then I went off on a David Collings kick that led me to James Maxwell that led me to Alfie and all sorts. (Suzanne Neve would be tough to fit into a chart because I met her while following David Collings, and when following James Maxwell and Alfred Burke.)
ETA: And of course, I only watched B7 in the first place because of Doctor Who and Spooks... (I was on this Spooks forum, doing what I usually do in forums - hiding from all the debate on the actual fandom by talking Classic Who in the off-topic threads and then my fellow Classic Who devotees suddenly started talking B7 and leaving me out! And then said that if I liked Spooks and Classic Who there was no way I wouldn't enjoy B7 and, as it turned out, they were right.

Date: 2021-01-23 06:00 pm (UTC)wouldwill be so many sprawling links. :DThanks for issuing this challenge. I'll think about it and try and make a chart. I tried a few and this one just lets you start right away without downloading anything or making an account. Not sure if it's really reusable, but it looks nice:

(Also it tickled me that the stick figure they have is called "actor". Yeah, I know that's what it's called in UML, but it made me laugh. :D)
