Just mainlined the first 7 episodes of Stranger Things. The most amazing thing...

...I totally grew up with that same couch in the Wheeler's basement, lol.

Seriously though, I am quite liking this. I just don't understand why the same group who KILLED Benny the diner owner for seeing Eleven just umm.... let Hopper go after he broke in to their classified facility? (also lolz on that, that was some terrible security!)

But overall I am really liking it a lot. It's definitely a dose of nostalgia (as well as terror and not just of the fashions). I like that they are giving Steve whats-his-name a conscience and making him more than just the tail-chasing dick. Though him and Nancy's story is the one I care less about. Except I liked Barb and they outright killed her off which sucks. I also really like Hopper. Joyce is okay but she is also totally panicked for the whole series -- even her first words to Jonathan "We talked about this!" made me want her to just be quiet. Also I know she was Spock's mom in the new Star Trek and stuff but I just can't think of Winona Ryder as old enough to play the mom. She'll always be Lydia from Beetlejuice to me. Ah well, she is growing on me some.

ETA: Oh there were only 8 episodes! Well okay then, I've watched them all now.

OMG that poor kid Will. A week in a toxic netherworld, carted off by a demon, and apparently still not yet out of the woods. It feels like he would be a lot more traumatized than he was. And what kind of deal did Hopper make? And is Eleven still alive? Perhaps we will see next season.

I had the same problem with Wynona at first (though Girl, Interrupted did shake that up some years ago), but overall, they sold me on this. This was just...epic.

From what I understood, they were totally going to leave Steve as a dick, but the actor himself was so nice, they couldn't do it, lol!! Barb...we were supposed to like Barb. And they never intended to save her. They wanted to show that no one was safe.

Methinks Hopper got out the first time because he was smalltown sheriff (I'm sure they didn't bother to research his background) and therefore not a threat. Also, he didn't know about Eleven at the time, nor was he interested in what they were doing. But the lady who played the social worker/concerned teacher/etcetc just made me wonder...what kind of people watch passively (even assist) in the out and out torture of a child and then go out of their way to kill and maim in order to do so? How do they justify themselves? This whole thing is a moral dilemma on so many levels and that's what truly makes it interesting. They leave a lot open for another season, but all in all, I found this satisfying and so very 1983 and yet awesome all at once!

*HUGS*

Edit: I also think the security was lax because there was a small town next door that never bothered them and they were lulled into thinking they never would, even when something terrible happened. after all...they're the government!!

I feel like this is the first time in years that we've both watched a new show at roughly the same time. I just finished episode eight. I liked it. There were a few bits that required a certain amount of handwaving, but overall it was enjoyable.

I've never thought Winona Ryder was a terribly great actress and this show has not changed my mind on that front. I thought David Harbour was really solid though. He gave the impression of a man who'd been through hell and hadn't quite made it all the way back, without being over the top about it. I'm really curious to see more of Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) - she was on an episode of NCIS a couple of years ago, as a sociopath child who killed her mom in order to get her dad to come home from deployment in the Navy.
