Thoughts:
All over the place. Year of the EleventyFest, I suppose. Lots of short stories, and very little that I am super proud of. I was a very distracted and stuck writer this year. Not super fulfilling for me. :( Except EleventyFest, that was an absolute ball.
Fics:
12 complete stories over 100 words, 2 poems, 7 stories 100 words or less, 3 ongoing WIP
Total word count:
12800 or so of finished stories and another 11000 or so of unfinished bits.
Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
More in terms of words maybe. But I'd been hoping to finish at least one of the WIPs I'd had on the table and instead I filled the table with 2 more WIPs.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2013?
I wrote a story with Clara! Also, poetry. Twice!
What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.
The above story with Clara! The Hump Day Party Mix. I just really like how it turned out. And how fast I was able to write it, and how the whole idea about the mix tape started off as a crazy lark and then turned into something actually cool and a bit clever just by following random threads of a story in my brain.
Okay, NOW your most popular story.
I think in terms of hits it's Songs in the Key of Run, but it's also had all year to gather hits, and Concentration of Measure is only since September, and has a lot of hits. But I don't know. I think Songs definitely got the most comments. The Eleventyfest stories had lots of comments from participants though. But I guess Songs is it.
Story most underappreciated by the universe?
I think maybe Matrix? It's poetry and very short, but I kind of couldn't believe I actually made it work. And I tried to signpost it a little bit but at least from the comments, some readers thought that it was just the first line of the linear stanza that set up the following stanzas, not that they were the entire columns of the poem.
Story that could have been better?
This one.
Sexiest story?
This misplaced comment fill? (Eleven/Amy/Rory)
Story with single sweetest moment?
Probably Rory singing in Songs in the Key of Run.
Saddest story?
I don't think I wrote any sad stories. I think Love in the Times of Cholera might be pretty sad if I get to finishing it. Or maybe this one which at least to me has a tinge of sadness if only because Eleven and River's story is ended in canon.
Hardest story to write?
Still goes to the WIP-o-Doom. Runner up is Paths to Glory, which gave me fits and I only wrote the first part of the story I'd intended to write.
Easiest story to write?
Concentration of Measure. I like writing TARDIS POV and while it has been known to take me months to get the voice right elsewhere, in this ficlet her voice just fell out in about an hour of sitting on my side porch in the sun.
Most overdue story?
Sixathon Martha and Six story :( Who_at_50 Nyssa and Eleven story. WIP-o-Doom, if it had a deadline other than, "about the current Doctor".
Most fun story?
Hump Day Party Mix, definitely. I haven't had that much fun writing in ages.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
I would never! And if I did it would be that ridiculous thing that some
Story that shifted your own perceptions of the characters:
Can't say anything did, really. Except maybe I had a breakthrough writing Clara and figured out a bit more of her personality. Did I mention?
Biggest surprise:
Also the Hump Day Party Mix. Surprised as hell I wrote it.
Most unintentionally revealing story:
Nah, I don't have much in common with the characters I write.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I posted some WIPs instead of trying to finish them. I learned that I really shouldn't post WIPs that aren't finished, no matter how late they are and how much I want other people to read them. Then I want to go smash my head into a wall that is labeled WIP-o-Doom. I also did some more podfic and had a fun time with it. I learned it might be fun to do more.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
I want to finish my Eleven/River epic WIP-o-Doom before Capaldi gets his first episode, damn it! Seriously this WIP started from a prompt about the trailer. For series six. *sighs*

Also, poetry. Twice Poetry is always nice and scary! I am a little bit in awe of the writers who have enough courage to tackle it. Kudos to you!
Runner up is Paths to Glory, which gave me fits and I only wrote the first part of the story I'd intended to write.
And I think it really paid up. It has one of the most fascinating work on tone I have ever seen. Absolutely striking!
Concentration of Measure. *hugs fic* Still can't believe how gorgeous it is. Apparently you are a TARDIS in disguise... Surely it must be a good thing?
I want to finish my Eleven/River epic WIP-o-Doom before Capaldi gets his first episode, damn it! *cheers* With the long hiatus? You can do it!

Date: 2014-01-03 03:17 am (UTC)Really glad you liked Paths to Glory. I was worried as I just made most of it up outside of any particular canon or anything, and since there was only one recognizable character in it I wasn't sure how well it would go over.
Ha, we'll see about my WIP-o-Doom. I think it is almost finished. Kind of. I should set some kind of schedule to stick to for writing. After we've moved.
