I wondered about that, too. According to the interwebs - it is either a reference to the town or a reference to Thomas Carlyle 1795-1881 who apparently focused a lot on human observations and observations of ignorance.

I'm not sure how ignorance is bliss vs ignorance is carlyle are opposites....or whatever.

I really liked this episode, too! That monster was creeptastic at first!!!
