Ah, autumn. The warm mid-day sun and cool breeze. The goldening of trees, the showers of loosed leaves that spin across the lawn. The lazy thudding of stinkbugs as they fly dumbly into the siding of our house, like the sound of moored boats creaking against the confines of plastic pontoons.

I've been meaning to get the insecticide out for a few weeks now. *sighs*

Here we have the lovely eastern boxelder bug, which is similar to but not the same as a stinkbug. It is red and black and can fly and is SUPER ANNOYING.

We also have stinkbugs, but they don't fly around and drive you crazy the same way as the boxelder bugs do.

The true test will be this year; we sprayed th year before last but it was also a light year. We use Bayer advanced termite killer (blue bottle). We sprayed outside our house all along the foundation, and around doors and windows.

You might get stinkbugs before pretty long...they are creeping westward. It's not the fact that they fly around so much that bothers me; it's that they creep into your house through every possible crack, and if you're not careful they will infest everything. We just took our window air conditioner out yesterday; it dumped like eight stinkbugs onto the rug when we put it down, four more entrenched in its plastic webbing, and I knew they'd been getting in around that unit b/c it wasn't sealed... When I checked the curtains in the windows there were another fifteen or so hiding out in the folds. Window sealed, curtains washed now.

Our worse infestation was a few years ago (three?). I was flushing like 30 bugs a day, had to use the shopvac clean out two huge infestations of bugs--one from around the guest room window, the other from our an unfinished bathroom closet. I really don't want that to happen again :(

I hate stinkbugs. I hope one day all stinkbugs left in the world know me as Ka Faraq Gatri, the Predator, the Oncoming Storm.

That's really weird, because we've had stinkbugs in the area since I was a kid, but you don't see very many of them--no infestations or anything like that. Although I have always lived either in the city proper or a college town.
