The Almost People
May. 28th, 2011 06:40 pm- That was both Tom Baker AND David Tennant's voices snuck in there, wasn't it? And omg, Crazy!Eleven nearly crying just blows my mind, even if he is a flesh copy. "Reverse the polarity of the jelly baby." And Moffat had to sneak in the "no, we've moved on!" in there after nearly getting taken over by Ten. Me like.
- "Why would we have any weapons, we're a factory!" Thank you, that does make sense :D
- God, this episode is so DARK. I mean light-wise, it is hard to see what's going on.
- LOL love Eleven talking to himself. "She's very good at sarcasm." "Do we tend to say 'yowzer'?"
- Okay, so how did Ganger!Jennifer make a copy of herself if the computer didn't recognize her as human?
- Okay, I kind of love Ganger!Miranda. She is awesome. And regular Miranda too, she redeems herself for being crazy-irrational kill-them-all in the previous episode.
- Oh poor Jennifer. She wants to be the strong one. This is not the way to do it.
- I love the Doctors popping up from the control panel. "Because bow ties are cool!" And point to me for the shoes. "A fact that has not confronted me learned self here." LOL Doctor, how can you be so young and so old at the same time?
- "Don't call me Pond, please." Ouch, Amy.
- "Being almost the Doctor is like being no Doctor at all" D:
- The music gets too speedy here. like, Aha! Quick! ... um... scan for Rory.
- Aha I missed the phone call making before on the first watch.
- Now on rewatch I am curious. When did the Doctors switch shoes? Is Amy confessing to the Real Doctor that she saw him die? Is the Real Doctor hearing something inside his head? It doesn't make sense then that he hears the cries of the gangers, so this must still be Flesh!Doctor? SO CONFUSED. Continuing to rewatch...
- So okay, the Doctor can connect to the Flesh; he could do that on last episode too. So perhaps who we think is "ganger!Doctor" is the real Doctor all along. If so, then Amy did just tell him something he shouldn't have known, right?
- Oh, that is a good switch. Really is.
- This episode has some seriously creepy visuals. And oooh that Jennifer is creepy.
- "Am I crazy, Doctor?" "Well you did once plug your brain into an entire planet just to halt its orbit and win a bet." LOL ILU ELEVEN.
- ETA: oh oh oh he was scanning Cleaves with the sonic there, wasn't he? Maybe that realization helps answer my question 3 marks down.
- "Do you know, I want him to go. And I'm rather adamant."
- "I'll break out the big guns." RORY!!! Less to do this week, but oh, Rory.
- "It's a very deep parietal clot." What does she ask him? "You're not -----?" "On Earth, yes." "Well, seeing as Earth's all that's on offer..." (ETA: Thanks
- Jennifer, you are devious.
- Discarded Flesh is really really really creepy.
- "And hour, five seconds, or somewhere in between."
- I totally thought Rory was a Ganger when he showed up here.
- "Hey, them's the breaks. Welcome to the Human Race."
- "Have you been getting up really early and jumping on the bed?" Oh, I really did love that scene, and I love how the Doctor diffuses the situation by reminding the Gangers that they really are human.
- Oh, Jimmy. :(
- Holy shit creepy ass Jennifer is creepy. And the factory workers are dropping like flies. Buzzer and Jimmy and Dicken....
- And yeah, okay, so it was the Doctor all along
- "Foreman Miranda Cleaves! Marvelous. Beware Imitations!" And he kisses her, and it's really lovely. But, why can't everyone make a break for the TARDIS at this point?
- One thing that is a bit annoying about this episode is that despite the "Humans and Gangers are the same" message, at most one of any of the copies survived. I was hoping there would be two at some point.
- On that note, I had figured out from various clues and spoilers that Amy was gonna be a ganger; I was spoiled for the fact that she was kidnapped in episode 7, and I put that together with the "we will find you" clip that aired on BBC America back at the start of the series and figured that Amy was gonna be a copy. So, not surprised there. Two things that did surprise me: (1) the Doctor knowing from somewhere or somehow that Amy was specifically a flesh copy and (2) after all that talk of Gangers being the same as humans, the Doctor disintegrating Ganger!Amy. What? Was that version of Amy different than the others? Ie, was she more like an avatar with no life of her own? Real!Amy woke up when her doppelganger got disintegrated, so that makes me think it was some kind of harness control or something? And the Doctor was sending Amy messages through ganger!Amy. So it's like, Real Amy was there except as a duplicate, I guess.
(ETA: And on re-rewatch, the Doctor says at the end "Given what we've learned I will be as humane as possible but I have to do this." So, then, he knew he would have to destroy Ganger!Amy all along and wanted to know if it was taking a life or not. And maybe as he says, her molecular memories will survive? Man, this Doctor is rather as manipulative as Seven but way scarier in a way; he's got all the weight of the Time War behind him so you KNOW he will do scary, scary stuff.)
- Oh and now the Doctor knows that he invited everyone to his own wake. Interesting.
- Next week. I will not spoil for the trailer or prequel that I watched. But oh, I really really really want to know what is going on. Also, I am sort of sad that after next week we are going to have to waaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiit forever.
ETA: And okay, another question. Both Doctors have sonic screwdrivers? Continuity error: Doctor-who-stays-with-Amy tosses his sonic over to Doctor-who-looks-for-Rory, who uses the sonic to find dead Jennifer. BUT then Rory and Jennifer trap Doctor-who-stays-with-Amy in the acid room with Amy and the real Cleaves, Jimmy and Dicken. And then that Doctor scans the acid vat with his sonic screwdriver. Where did he get the sonic? ETA: and then Doctor-who-looked-for-Jennifer throws the sonic back to Doctor-who-stayed-with-Amy. Who now apparently has TWO sonics. And then "real" Doctor uses the sonic to melt Ganger!Amy. Just how many sonic screwdrivers are in this episode? ETA again: But of course the sonic that the flesh doctor uses to melt Jennifer, himself and Cleaves also melts. So it was a flesh sonic screwdriver. So I guess Flesh Doctor made himself two sonics. Silly continuity errors.
