That was really sweet. I was actually thinking they were going to make it more of a mystery for longer as to who Idris was, but I was okay with that. Because, I was 100% sure that she was the TARDIS, just from reading bits around the web. And her blue swirly outfit in the promo shots really, really reinforced that. Besides, there really was nobody else who could be the Doctor's Wife.

On the other hand, I was a bit disappointed there wasn't more of a twist to this episode beyond that. The plot was... functional. Gaiman in the Confidential said that the episode kind of sprung up around that dialogue between the Doctor and Idris/TARDIS when they're building the proto-TARDIS, and I do see that here. Not that it's a bad thing to be straightforward, but it was also a bit rough around some edges. At the same time though, the important bits really were wonderful.

But, rethinking 47 years of time travel? As was stated by some of the early spoiler-free reviews? Um, well, I hate to break it to you all, but this didn't make me re-think anything. Ha. It just means I was right this whole time. :D :D :D :D

Bits:

- "I've got mail!" :D

- LOL the Corsair was either a he or a she. And the Internet explodes.

- I love Matt Smith's mad Eleven in the TARDIS! "What's happening!" "We are leaving the Universe!" "How are we doing that?" "With enormous difficulty!" LOL OMG it reminds me of the end of Amy's Choice when he decided to blow up the TARDIS, which I loved!.

- The TARDIS has a scullery. ha

- "Where would it go?" Well done.

- Too many good lines. And something I missed first time around; that a lot of the "junkyard" looked like junk because of chameleon circuits of the half-eaten TARDISes.

- "Welcome, strangers. Lovely. Sorry about the mad person."

- Ah, these scenes flew by too quick on my first view. I kind of love them even more on rewatch. And I finally parsed the line "Biting is excellent. It's like kissing only there's a winner."

- And Idris trying to find the right word and trying to parse everything in linear time is rather fantastic. I also love how the Doctor runs away from her when she tries to kiss him again.

- "Little boxes will make you angry." That was in the trailer bit and well I kind of figured it out from then that the time lords he was looking for would just be distress beacons.

- The idea of lots of Time Lords, as opposed to one, rather rattles the Doctor a bit. I also like how they play up the telepathic connection the Doctor has to his people in this one too, when he's looking for them.

- I really love Auntie in the scene after they hear the Time Lords. "Just the four of us, and the House." Like it's the most normal thing in the universe.

- Right. House is the least trustful disembodied entity they've ever met. And I love the little things like Auntie sizing up Amy's hair and face... which you don't realize why until later on. *shudders*

- The Doctor gets emotional and makes mistakes... a callback to The Beast Below, maybe?

- "Nice job, brilliant job. Really thought I had some friends here." Dagger through the heart, even though I knew it was coming.

- "You gave me hope and then you took it away. That's enough to make anyone dangerous; God knows what it will do to me." Okay, angry Eleven is a lot scarier and more heartbreaking than angry Ten. Possibly because he still warns people and means it.

- Ah, I'm just gonna have to re-watch the scenes with Smith and Jones over and over again and wish there were more of them.

- Just what is House? How does it transfer its consciousness to the TARDIS and run if its body is a googly thing under an exoskeleton of accumulated universe plug-hole rubbish? How does it stitch and repair Auntie and Uncle? Well, body control perhaps. Small questions, less important I guess because really all House is there to do is provide a skeleton of plot so that the characters can continue interacting.

- "It's time for Auntie and Uncle to pop off." "I'm against it." LOL they are like the weird macabre versions of the "silly sidekicks" in Disney cartoon movies (gargoyles in Hunchback, the clock and the candle in Beauty and the Beast, etc).

- "We need to go to ------ Doctor, quickly." What does she say there? Some of her dialogue is really hard to pick up. (Aha, ans: "where I landed")

- "What does it say?" "Pull to open!" "And what do you do?" "I push!" hahahahaha! Why have I never noticed that before?

- Oho, you know, *this* episode also has echoes of "Curse of Fatal Death" to it, though darker tones... how the Master kept falling down the pit and aging like 300 years each time. "900 years! In a sewer!" That is rather like what happens to shade Rory (who I'm thinking is a construct of the House, right?). Some blogger somewhere said there was a reference to "Curse of Fatal Death" last week... the Freud line maybe? Right, so the secret to all of this season is actually that the Doctor regenerates into Joanna Lumley in episode 13. THAT IS MY NEW THEORY. In other news, aaaaa I still hate age makeup!!! aaaaaaa!!!!

- gorgeous CGI of the proto-TARDIS going through the rift.

- "I archived them!" "You can't archive something that hasn't happened yet!" "You can't!" :D

- Also more echoes of Brain of Morbius here, as Den of Geek or someone else mentioned. Blinded companions and patchwork people.

- How did Nephew get into the TARDIS.

- "Did you wish really hard?" BEST. LINE. EVER.

- A TARDIS in a TARDIS in a TARDIS. ha.

- oh Doctor, it has been a long time since you've had to stall.

- "Finish him off, girl." House is no match for TARDIS. TARDIS eats House for breakfast. And despite the fact that this is also murder the same way killing Silents is murder, well, this one feels much less jarring, possibly because House has no redeeming qualities, and because the Doctor actually still looks regretful when it happens (despite the fact that it is necessary).

- Oh, I kind of wish they had like an extra two minutes to tell this next part, because I was a bit confused and the transition was a bit abrupt. I thought that the whole TARDIS consciousness was dying, but it was just the part that was alive like a human's alive? Anyway on first watch I was a bit thrown out of the emotions here, which annoyed me. However it got better with re-watch, so that is good.

- "This is when we talked." As in, in all of their time together (past and future), this is the only time. D: That is sad.

- "Please. I don't want you to--" Oh, poor Doctor. And her last words are "I love you," whispered as she fades.

- "A bed...with a ladder! You can't beat that!" HA!

- "The Eye of Orion or wherever we need to go." *hearts*

Yes, well. I rather liked that, aside from some minor quibbles. Top marks for filler ep #2! ;D

Oh yes indeedy, that was something. And I quite agree about the best line ever. ::::snorfle::::

It will be interesting to see what how this might affect the role of the TARDIS in future episodes. Moffat is up to something. :)

I was asking Astro if the Tardis had ever embodied or talked to the Doctor before Parting of the Ways. I think it'd be fun to compare the two episodes and see any similarities or differences between Tardis-Rose and Tardis alone, since the Idris personality/soul was removed beforehand.

And her last words are "I love you," whispered as she fades.

I missed that the first time around and was a little disappointed that she didn't say it.

This was one of those episodes where I just sat back, watched and loved. I was totally okay with the plot taking a back seat to the interaction.

I loved "He's the pretty one?!" I think that made my entire season.

If I tried to quote this I would quote everything. I've got to watch it again, and then again, and then again after that. It was awesome beyond belief. My Thief! My Thief! Pretty, pretty Rory. Such love.

TARDIS eats House for breakfast

Also, House actually tried to eat her and did eat all those other TARDISes.

I particularly loved the line "A mad woman with a Doctor" - such a great inversion of the madman with a box!

Hi :) Here from... do you know, I haven't the faintest idea... wandering along the interwebs, as you do and stumbled upon your musings on Doctor Who :)

Thanks for sharing. In return I have an answer, although it's not that interesting ;)

"We need to go to ------ Doctor, quickly." What does she say there? Some of her dialogue is really hard to pick up.

"We need to go to where I landed Doctor, quickly." She does speak kinda fast doesn't she? I have to confess to using the BBC iPlayer subtitles for that one myself :)

I do love the idea that maybe the TARDIS is a little more alive now, and maybe will participate in future episodes in a different way. A living ship... and we love living ships :)

Jaz
