Doctor Who Fangeekery!
Nov. 12th, 2008 09:44 pmThis makes me very happy. I'm a sucker for old monsters coming back; also, I really liked the BBC7 Eight and Lucie adventures in season 2; if they keep on improving as they've been, it'll be a fun ride. And the weekly thing is fab-- you've got a little more extra time to tell a longer story (most of the previous seasons were approx. 45 minute episodes, I believe), with a new one out every week!
The only thing is, they will come out on Saturdays, and I know I won't be able to wait until Monday to listen during my drive. So I suppose I'll be seeking out alternative audio support, still. Plus a half-hour only covers me one-way from my house to the tunnel; there's another 10-15 minutes of the drive after that!
Still, it does make me happy. Weekly Doctor Who!
In other Eighth Doctor news, I have a fanfic rec! The Plague World series by Beck McLaughlin. Three sprawling fantasy stories in a world that starts out as a "what if" alternate Earth, and that's just the beginning of the journey. Humor, adventure, action, great world-building with political intrigue and an alien culture that straddles the lines of magic vs. science but draws you in nonetheless. Oh, and a full cast of great OCs. Plus, half-human Eighth Doctor, fresh from the 1996 movie. Yeah, this is an old link, but even so the author got back to me when I emailed her. If you read it and enjoy it, send her a note (her umich email is still valid, even if the other stories on that site are dead links); maybe we can convince her to archive the story at Teaspoon. :)
In other, semi-related news, I should hopefully be getting a tech support call from across the pond sometime this week. Big Finish (for non-dw fen: it's not a porn site I swear, it's the company that makes and distributes these 'audio adventure' things I wax on about from time to time) seems intent on trying to charge me 12.99GBP when I try to initiate a download. What with the way the dollar's been lately, that's almost a double-price markup, since it should be 12.99USD. It's really an odd error. I hope I can get it fixed soon because I've not been able to download anything new! I've been hearing good things about the Gallifrey series, and also I think there's some Bernice Summerfield adventures out in audio. I hope I can get my account fixed; I've been re-listening to a lot of classics lately but wouldn't mind something new. (ETA: Oh yay! It has been fixed! I didn't do anything; I wonder if it was just weirdness on my browser's part or what-- the problem persisted for at least a week, on three different browsers on two different laptops. But it's fixed now, thank goodness!)
