Grainy blur. Pan to grainy blur. Pan past DHD. To pile of rocks. More blur.

Jack leaned forward in the high-backed conference room chair, tapping a finger lightly on the table and squinting at the screen for a few seconds more before checking his watch. 5:30pm. 7:30 Eastern.

Beside the display, Daniel was meandering around some kind of point.

"... no sign of an entrance, no visible support structures or inscriptions might lead one to conclude that the cavern is natural and the Stargate has merely been buried, like the one on Earth that was discovered in Antarctica. The settled dust and air circulation patterns indicate no disturbances on P3X-447 beyond the initialization of the wormhole and the movements of the MALP itself..."

Jack chanced a glance at his companions. General Hammond was, as always, making good use of his time, marking handwritten notes on a report. Carter was double checking Daniel's words against her own notes. Teal'c was unreadable as ever, but probably bored.

A momentary lull was all the opportunity Jack needed.

"You know, I'm missing the Avs-Redwings for this gripping drama," he said. Onscreen, the low arc of the Stargate passed silently into the MALP's field of view, and then out again.

Daniel took the comment in stride, barely stopping for breath. "Yes of course, we all know inter-planetary exploration pales in comparison to the thrill of watching a rubber disc smacked around a rink. Now as I was saying, activity in the cavern--"

"Daniel Jackson."

All eyes turned to Teal'c, who was still sitting attentively, hands folded on the table.

"Yes, Teal'c?" Daniel inquired.

"It is the much anticipated seventh game of the conference final." A finger twitched. Was he fidgeting?

Jack and Teal'c exchanged raised eyebrows. "In H.D." Jack added.

"Indeed."

This garnered a grin from Carter, quickly stifled when Daniel looked to her for support.

"Sorry Daniel," she said, the smile creeping back on her face. "Can't argue with Teal'c." Behind her the MALP panned across the same pile of rocks for the third time, and Jack made a mental note to buy Teal'c a beer.

Hammond cleared his throat, closing the manila folder in front of him. "Highlights, Doctor Jackson."

Daniel sighed, but summarized. "The cavern is technologically constructed, sealed, and has most likely been abandoned for the last 3500 years."

"That's not all," Carter spoke up. "Pause it there, will you Daniel?"

The playback paused, pointed at the floor to reveal a distinct circular shape.

Jack studied the image. "Is that-?"

"A Goa’uld ring transport?" Daniel finished. "Yes."

Carter voiced Jack's own thoughts on that matter. "And wherever it leads may well have been untouched by the Goa’uld for millennia," she added.

"Well," Jack sat back in his chair. "Now we’re getting somewhere. What do you say, Teal'c, we'll work out the logistics of this one and still have time to see Colorado win the conference tonight."

Teal'c raised an eyebrow. "Indeed, O'Neill." A silent pause. "However, my analysis currently favors the Red Wings."

"Detroit?" Jack glanced at Hammond and at the science half of his team, gauging how much they would let him and the Jaffa indulge this little side conversation. He read tacit approval, and at least some degree of amusement. "T, you wound me," he continued.

"Detroit has superior defensive capabilities, as well as explosive goal scoring potential."

"Ten bucks-- no, ten bucks and a case of beer-- says Hasek chokes and Colorado goes to the finals."

Daniel weighed in. "I wouldn't bet against him, Jack."

"Hey," Jack waved a hand vaguely at the MALP display. "Go plan your little inter-planetary expedition."

"P3X-447," Carter offered, and it was back to business.

Try as he might, for the rest of the short meeting Jack couldn't quite knock the feeling that whatever three-thousand-year-old civilization they were going to meet-and-greet on 447, he was going to do it out ten dollars and a case of Molson.
