Ack, four days left!
Aug. 30th, 2010 09:31 amWell, I didn't get a ton done this weekend, mostly due to spending the bulk of Saturday at the Cooper's Lake brewfest, which was fun (homebrew tasting, yum). On Saturday I sewed the overskirt to my bodice, which took a while and also resulted in one bent needle on the sewing machine. I had to go back and re-do some of the lines to get the seams as straight as I could. Saturday's sewing involved a lot of cursing.
Yesterday, I got my hair cut, found some passable shoes at Macy's which should also be comfortable (Bare Traps mid-size heel pumps, but mine have a buckle where the picture has a big button), altered my underskirt to remove some fullness from the front panel as it was not laying right, got a cheap-o full-length mirror at Walmart so I could see what I was doing, added a (somewhat shoddy) pocket to the underskirt in the back for cell phone and wallet, hemmed the underskirt, and also altered my corset by taking it in about two inches from the side panels. The corset now fits my bust and shoulders a lot better and will go nicely underneath the bodice and help to hold the underskirt in place.
There was lots of trying things on, pinning, trying things on again, taking them off, pinning, etc. I took one really grainy cellphone pic in the mirror at about 1am (sans corset, though it doesn't look much different with the corset on underneath):
( one grainy cellphone image below the cut )
Still to do:
-bias-tape finish the bodice/overskirt seam and front facing panels (this is a pain in the rear end, basically involved prettying up a seam of four layers of heavy fabric, some gathered, also with the added bonus of having some boning pieces in the way of how it has to fold, bleh)
- hem the overskirt (approx: 2.5 inches, slipstitching, hooray)
- Add the trim (still haven't decided on lace vs. gimp trim)
- Add the buttons down the front
- Sew down the front facing edge of the overskirt side panels
- Press
-Panic
Also on the docket for this week is getting together a zombie prom outfit, and getting my TARDIS wardrobe packed up with its casters.
