Sound/Voice Meme for Doctor Who
So hey, I did a meme! This is a voice meme I snagged after
a_phoenixdragon did a SuperNatural version of it linked from
tebtosca here.
The internet is an amazing place that has allowed us to communicate and share with each other, but there is just something about listening to someone else's voice and getting to know them through the things that make them unique. Cadence, accent, the amount of times someone says "UM" -- all of those things are a delightful way to appreciate the friends you already have and the friends you are hoping to make.
The instructions are super easy: record yourself answering the questions below the jump and then post it in the comments!
- What is your username, and where did you come up with it?
- Tell us where you are from and something about it
- When did you start watching DW? When did you get into fandom?
- Who is your favorite Doctor? Who is your favorite companion?
- Pronounce the following words: Aunt, Route, Caramel, Syrup, Pajamas, Potato, Gif, Tumblr, TARDIS, Brigadier, Bad Wolf, Vortex Manipulator, Morbius, Ponds, Sonic, Eye of Orion, Susan, Polly, Pertwee, Eccleston, Adric, Capaldi, Clara, Medusa Cascade, Tereleptil, Cybermat, Vashta Nerada, Sweetie, Zygon, Dalek, Raxicoricofallipatorius, your favorite bit of anatomy, and a dirty word of your choosing.
- Share something you love about your primary DW ship. If you prefer, share something about your favorite episode.
- Share a favorite story or piece of art/vid (with fandom/pairing/author) that you think everyone should read or view.
- What is your favorite DW quote?
- If you could travel to anywhere in Time and Space, from Earth history or any of the worlds on the show, where would you go?
- Do you have a hobby outside of fandom?
- Anything else you'd like to add?
There are several ways to record. I used Audacity and then uploaded it to tindeck. (You can also upload to soundcloud or other kinds of sites, but that does require having a microphone). Others have used Vocaroo Your iPhone or other device might also have built in sound recorders that can work. There is also a way to make a recording via your phone on LJ if that's easier for you.
My recording is linked below. It's unrehearsed and upon listening I never realized I said "um" so much. But yeah, I totally do.
My recording
Possibly I will try an embed link?
Upload MP3 and download MP3 using free MP3 hosting from Tindeck.
Here is the link to my rec from the recording (Partial map of your TARDIS, subject to change): http://dwfiction.livejournal.com/2794749.html

I hope it can be linked there...this is just too damned awesome to pass up!
Never incoherent! I love your name and how you came up with it and your ships and the fact that you are a twin and OMG, you are awesome!!
*SQUISHES!!!*

I think you are way better at answering the questions than I was :D
no subject
Nahhh, I'm just used to it. And I suspect (with all my nattering) that I must be in love with the sound of my own voice (like my mama always said, lol)!
This is fun!! I hope loads of people do it!! Whoot!

This was awesome! Rock on you for pulling it together! I have a feeling this will be fantastic, wicked fun!

Ah, I'm listening now from the download and hearing your voice fine :) (eeee French accent!) iTunes is telling me your track is 17:14 in length. However when I was trying to use the embedded it seemed to not know the length (started out saying 16 seconds, then like 32 seconds, then 24 minutes...). If you can export the track to mp3 that might work out better.

It seems to work now! :D

ETA: the link is f-locked; should I link it here (publicly)? I could also put a link straight to tindeck.

Edit: I made it public now =)

(PS: You did great on the pronunciations! And I love your thoughts about fire and water and flowing for your username :) )

I am only half-way through listening (hanging up laundry this afternoon as well), but am enjoying your responses a lot! I never made the connection between the Overflow and Florence and the Machine before, but now I totally see it :D

Awesome, I will record later. Off to work now.

The story behind your username is fun! :D And yay astronomy! ;) I was into that as a kid, too…

Donna was really great as a companion because she's treated very much on equal terms with the Doctor and they're excellent friends. Plus, ginger queen :D
Omg that partial map is gorgeous
I should try to make one sometimeno subject
The other line of Donna's that I like a lot is from the christmas special when she's looking down the giant spider pit and says, "Dinosaurs! Dinosaurs? Just...trying to help." :D
Ha, you should! More art like that would be brilliant :D

Good choice of username too - I remember that particular X-Files episode well. The creepy little girls even nearly got the drop on Mulder and Scully in the end.
no subject
They did indeed nearly use their foxglove poisoning skills on Mulder and Scully too. Likely revenge for dressing them in matching bright red Murphy Brown 80's shoulder-pad dresses. (if my recollection serves me...)

And, well, I went and did it - enjoy:

What field do you work in? (I too am surrounded by nerds; network security and software engineers)
Yay, flying the multi shipper flag! And Two/Jamie, yeah, they are definitely on more equal footing than some of the later Doctor/Companion pairs.
Ah, I will definitely check out the story; it sounds really cute.
And yes, costumes! You did the really cool Kandyman outfit at Chicago TARDIS if I recall. Nicely done.
Thanks so much for doing the meme! You have a great voice and it was a pleasure to listen to :)
no subject
I should go to everyone else's and then decide whether I want to risk doing my own.

Also, I love your voice and intonation.
And now I want to see the city, it sounds fantastic.
Your story of discovering Who was quite fun. I ache for the poor person traumatised by Eccleston regeneration; THAT must have hurt.
Everything you say about Donna... And River/Eleven *grabby hands* My loves!
The astronomy game was such a nice story.
And hockey! I love hearing people being passionate about hobbies - it always brings me joy.
I live for zingers and humorous quotes as well -the waterpistol one was the best!
I will definitely do this, when I find time to gather my accent for a recording.

The astronomy game was called Space Hop. There was also Star Hop (we were not as good at Star Hop because the clues for where you needed to go were a lot tougher).
For some reason when I was doing that meme I just completely blanked on any good quotes, even though there are plenty I'm sure! I think that means I need to do a re-watch marathon soon.
Also I see you made a recording! I'll link it above if that's all right.
no subject
OMG, I want that game for my birthday now! It looks gorgeous -I don't think it exists in French though. That's a shame. Well, we have an excellent board game shop nearby and they have everything. I should have a look at space games.
That's a trouble I have with every show; watching them with a notebook and a pen would be easier.
Thanks!

Hockey is so much fun. Even if I don't score goals. The other night we were up 2-0 and the other team had their goalie pulled and were pressuring and I corralled the puck and dumped it out of the zone with like 40 seconds to go and it felt almost as good as (I imagine) scoring a goal. :D

I should hurry up and do my own :P

Very funny to do, even if towards the end you can tell I was getting tired of pronouncing English properly xD
