fun article

Fun article on the new-ish trend of femme-doctors at cons. Interesting exploration. I've certainly felt some of the "one-of-the-guys" pressures but I don't know how much that translates to wanting to do cross-gender costuming. I figure it's like an expression that says: "I'm not going to be able to pull off the 'real' look, so I'm going to put my creative spin on it."

i really like the femme doctor costumes i've seen on LJ - they're really pretty and interesting. that said, i know that when i dress as five it will be in trousers (and was when i was eight and ten and.... ainley). i guess i have been indoctrinated too well. also, i don't know - there's a bit of me that thinks it'd genuinely be beyond me to re-think the costume and then present it convincingly. the rethought costumes are more than just substituting trousers for a skirt, or they should be. and if they aren't, then perhaps you should just be wearing trousers.

I loved that Flapper 2! I could certainly see myself doing that or Victorian 8 or, if I really wanted to save money on costuming, 3 in the shower.
