The mirror was a must for checking hems; I couldn't do it just by staring down at my feet, lol. D wasn't so pleased with the "I must go to Walmart and buy a cheap $10 mirror-- they have horrible red or horrible orange, oh wait, here's a horrible white that is slightly less horrible than the others."
